Indian Institute of Management Lucknow has designed the CAT Exam Pattern 2017. The CAT 2017 exam pattern has released by the authorities along with the official notification on 29th July. The CAT Exam pattern has remained same from past two years and this year will also remain same. As per the exam pattern of CAT, the test will be computer-based consisting of 100 multiple choice objective questions. The time duration for the exam is 3 hours and there will be three sections in the exam.
According to the official notification, the CAT Exam 2017 will be held on 26th November 2017. The CAT Application Form 2017 will be available online for the candidates from 9th August. The last date for filling the application form is 20th September. The total time duration for the exam is 3 hours or 180 minutes. For each section, 1 hour is bounded and candidates can’t move to another section within 1-hour duration. Candidates can attempt any question within the particular section.
Each question in the paper carries 3 marks. Candidates will be awarded 3 marks for each correct answer and 1 mark will be deducted for each wrong answer. This is applicable for only MCQs and for non-MCQ questions there is no negative marking. Each question in non-MCQ is of 3 marks.
Number of Questions
The total number of questions in CAT exam will be 100. The section of Verbal and Reading Comprehension and Quantitative Ability sections carries 34 number of questions each. While Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning section consist of 32 questions.
Types of Questions
CAT exam paper includes total 100 number of questions. The questions will be Multiple choice objective type as well as Non-MCQs. Candidates can see the distribution of questions in the below table:

Candidates will be provided a non-scientific calculator for the basic calculations on the screen. Candidates can avail this facility with the help of the mouse to compute the basic calculations.
IIMs will provide the mock test for the aspirants to make them familiar with the actual structure of the exam. The mock test will be available for the candidates in the third week of the October.
