CAT 2017 – Syllabus, Eligibility Criteria, Registration, Application Form

Common Admission Test which also known as CAT is a national level exam conducted by the Indian Institute of Management (IIM). CAT is management entrance exam conducted for the admissions in 20 IIMs and other Business schools across the India. It is computer based test having multiple choice objective questions.

CAT is conducted by the IIMs on a rotational basis every year. CAT 2017 will be conducted by the Indian Institute of Management Lucknow. IIM Lucknow has released the notification of CAT 2017 on 29th July. CAT test will be conducted on 26th November 2017. CAT is the biggest MBA entrance exam taken by more than two lakh candidates every year.

CAT Score is accepted by 20 IIMs and also by over 100 Business Schools across the India. CAT Eligibility Criteria

All applicants are advised to check the CAT Eligibility Criteria before applying for the CAT exam.

  • Candidate must have obtained the Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline from a recognized University or Institute.
  • The minimum aggregate marks or CGPA Secured by the candidate is 50 % for the General Category and 45% for Reserved category.
  • The final year graduation students are also eligible for the exam provided they must fulfill the Bachelor’s degree cutoff and other factors given by IIMs and other participating institutes.

IIMS and Other Government Institutes reserve the seats for the reserved categories which are given as:

CAT Application Form

CAT Application form will be available online from 9th August 2017. Candidates can fill the application form online only. Candidates have to register themselves online through the official website or the link given in this article. After the completion of the registration, IIM will send the login details by SMS and email. After that, candidates have to log in and have to fill the application form by filling the following information:

  • Communication Details
  • Academic Details
  • Work Experience
  • Test Centers and Interview Cities

After filling this information, candidates have to upload the photograph and signature in the given format and size.

Candidates can pay the fee through online mode using Credit/Debit Card or Net Banking.

CAT Exam Pattern

The CAT Exam Pattern varies every year. Exam pattern of CAT 2017 is same as last year. The total number of questions were 100 and time duration for the exam was 3 Hours. All the questions were the multiple and non-multiple choice. All the questions carry three marks. There was negative marking as 1 mark was deducted for every wrong answer.

CAT Admit Card

CAT Admit card 2017 will be available from 18th October for downloading. Candidates can download the admit card online. To download the admit card, candidates have to visit the official website and enter the login details. Candidates have to carry the admit card to examination hall because they will not be permitted to enter the examination hall without the admit card. CAT Admit Card carries the following information:

CAT Exam Centers

CAT Exam centers or exam cities are the venues where the exam is conducted. Last year the CAT was conducted in 136 cities across the India. This year CAT will be conducted in 140 cities across India. Candidates have to choose the four cities for the exam while filling the application form.

CAT Result

The CAT Result 2017 will be available in the second week of January 2018. Candidates can check the result and can download the CAT Score Card by entering their CAT ID. The result will be available online only and IIM will not send any Hard Copy of the same. CAT result will carry the section wise score and percentile of the candidates. The result will be available on the official website of the CAT 2017.

CAT Cut off

CAT Cutoff is the minimum marks that candidates have to score to be eligible for the admission in Business programs. To calculate the cutoff for different programs and institutes, various factors are undertaken like the total number of applicants, the difficulty level of the exam and number of seats available.

CAT Selection Procedure

CAT Selection Procedure varies from institute to institute. Most of the institutes shortlist the candidates on the basis of the CAT cut off. The shortlisted candidates are called for the Writing Ability Test (WAT) or Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI) rounds. Some Old IIMs conducts their selection procedure separately while some new IIMs conduct a Common Admission Process round where shortlisted candidates have to appear for the WAT and PI. Each participating institute will release its merit list. Non-IIM Institutes conducts GD and WAT or both along with the PI rounds.

CAT Participating institutes are the colleges and Universities which offer the admissions in Business programs to CAT qualified candidates on the basis of their score.
